Site Investigation and Technical Appraisal
The silos of the Big Moulins of Abidjan (GMA) have been constructed in the 1960. Wheat, rye and other ingredients necessary to manufacture bread were stored there. The capacity of the silos is about 30.000 tons.
The silos are currently in use. Between 2005 and 2010, a lot of investments have been made to clear the silos. The interior and outside surfaces have been treated and reinforced with contemporary materials.
In April 2010, a cell titled C52 was damaged during draining works after the rehabilitation of the interior surfaces.
According to investigations on site, the damage arrived suddenly with a big noise. Neither explosions, nor fire was involved, but the building close to this cell was partially destroyed. Nobody was injured because the accident happened during the weekend.
